Payouts
How Advance pays your producers and markets automatically on a schedule you choose.
Advance can pay your producers (the commissions they've earned) and your markets (the premium
disbursements owed to them) automatically, so you don't have to send each transfer by hand. You decide
who gets paid, into which bank account, and on what schedule — Advance takes care of the rest.
Payouts are configured per producer and per market, and both work the same way.
How automatic payouts work
As policies are sold and plans are paid, Advance keeps track of what each producer and market is owed.
When a scheduled payout date arrives, Advance sends the accumulated amount to that producer's or
market's configured bank account. You can always see the next payout date for each producer and
market so there are no surprises.
If automatic payouts are turned off, nothing is sent on a schedule — you can still pay out manually
whenever you choose.
Setting up payouts in the portal
In the Advance dashboard, open a producer or market and go to Payout Configuration. There you can:
- Turn automatic payouts on or off.
- Choose the destination bank account the money is sent to.
- Pick the transfer method — standard (ACH) or instant (wire).
- Choose the payout schedule (see below).
- (Producers only) Set a minimum balance so a payout only goes out once enough has accumulated —
handy for avoiding lots of small transfers.
Choosing a payout schedule
Pick the rhythm that matches your agreement:
- Monthly — pay on a monthly cycle, defined either way:
- Specific dates — one or more days of the month, e.g. the 1st and 15th.
- A weekday pattern — e.g. the 2nd Friday, the last Monday, or the 1st & 3rd Friday.
("Last" always means the final occurrence of that weekday in the month, whether it has four or five.)
- Weekly — one or more weekdays, every week (e.g. every Monday and Friday).
- Every few weeks — a rolling interval on the weekdays you choose (e.g. every 2 weeks on Friday).
The interval starts from the day you save the schedule.
The next payout date shown for the producer or market always reflects the schedule you chose. If you
change the schedule, any upcoming payouts that haven't been sent yet move to the next date in the new
schedule; payouts already sent are unaffected.
Payout Notifications
Within Payout Configuration, a Payout Notifications section lets you control who gets an email
when a payout runs, and alert you if one fails. These preferences are set separately for each producer
and each market.
| Notification | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Email the producer/market when a payout is sent | The recipient gets a confirmation email with a remittance advice attached (a commission breakdown for producers, a premium breakdown for markets). | On |
| Email me when a payout is sent | Your account's admins get a summary email when a payout goes out to this producer or market. | Off |
| Email me if a scheduled payout fails | Your account's admins are alerted if a scheduled payout couldn't be completed, so you can review and retry it. No funds move on a failed payout — it's returned to scheduled status. | On |
A few things to know:
- If a producer or market has no contact email on file, their confirmation email is simply skipped — the
payout itself still goes through. Add a contact email to start receiving confirmations for that
recipient. - "Email me" notifications go to every admin user on your account.
- One email is sent per payout — if several payouts run the same day, you'll get one email for each.
- A problem sending a notification never delays, blocks, or reverses the underlying payout.
Using the API
Everything above can also be set programmatically when you create or update a producer or market — the
payout settings (whether payouts are enabled, the schedule, the transfer method, the destination
account, and the payout notification preferences) are fields on the producer and market records, and
each record reports its next payout date. For the exact request and response fields, see the
Producers and Markets guides.
